Dr Claire Royston

Non Executive Director

The driving force behind my professional journey has been a commitment to making a meaningful difference to individuals where circumstance, illness or inequality have acted to compromise or erode their lived experience. I began my career as an academic psychiatrist combining a research and clinical practice as a consultant psychiatrist. For the last 20 years, I have undertaken a series of senior national appointments.

My professional experience encompasses a range of health and social services, providing me with in-depth sector knowledge regarding the care and support of older people and those living with learning disabilities, alongside complex specialist services. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, I have acted as Vice President of the Royal Society of Medicine, a Medical Member of the First Tier Tribunal Service, and have medico-legal expertise providing independent expert opinions for cases within the Court of Protection, Coroners Court, and in relation to cases of contested probate. I have a particular interest in innovation in regard to the use of technology.  Whether pioneering data collection and management, devising quality, compliance and assurance systems, or supporting executive to develop meaningful board reports, my goal is always to deliver insight, promote action, and innovate towards sustained improvement.

I am delighted to have joined the Hesley Group as both a Board Member and Non-Executive Director. Focused primarily on all aspects of quality and compliance, I act as Chair to the Quality Assurance Board. Advocacy and promoting the voice of individuals receiving care and support and the Colleagues providing that care are the cornerstones of my professional philosophy focused on delivering the best lived experience for those who we are privileged to support.
